The City and County of Newport is a unitary authority in south-east Wales, centred on the city of Newport on the estuary of the River Usk. With a population of around 175,000, it is the third-largest city in Wales and a key economic hub in the Cardiff Capital Region. Newport has a proud industrial and maritime heritage and is currently undergoing significant regeneration, with investments in the waterfront, arts, retail and commercial sectors drawing new residents and businesses to the area.
